Cricket fans have a new reason to buzz: former Pakistan head coach Jason Gillespie is returning to the spotlight with a coaching role in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The deal is reportedly done, with only the official announcement left.
Jason Gillespie, the former Australian fast bowler, has an impressive coaching resume that spans county cricket and domestic leagues worldwide. He was appointed head coach of Pakistan’s men’s Test team in April 2024 but stepped down in December the same year due to disagreements over management decisions and internal communication issues.
During his Pakistan tenure, Gillespie also briefly managed the limited-overs side on an interim basis after Gary Kirsten’s departure. His time with the national team was marked by candid critiques of the Pakistan Cricket Board, particularly regarding communication and decision-making.
Now, Gillespie is set to bring his expertise to a PSL franchise, although the team’s identity remains under wraps. Since its launch in 2016, the PSL has attracted top international and domestic talent, including high-profile overseas coaches, making it one of the leading T20 leagues globally.
Fans can expect an official announcement soon, signaling Gillespie’s exciting next chapter in Pakistan’s vibrant cricket scene.
SIALKOT TEAM SHORTLISTS PLAYERS
Meanwhile, Sialkot’s new Pakistan Super League (PSL) team is gearing up for PSL 11 and has already shortlisted five potential names. Fans could soon see Falcons, Stallions, Shaheen, Thunders, or Sixers taking the field.
The franchise is carefully reviewing branding and identity options, with the official team name and logo expected soon. Rather than making internal decisions, the team has hired experts to create an identity that blends Sialkot’s cricketing heritage with the PSL’s modern vibe.
Officially confirmed as the league’s eighth team, the Sialkot franchise is owned by OZ Developers’ Hamza Majeed, following a high-profile auction at the Jinnah Convention Centre.
