ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and Awam Pakistan Party (APP) chief Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has been admitted to hospital after suffering from heart-related complications.

According to hospital sources, Abbasi underwent a medical examination during which two stents were inserted to address the issue. Doctors have confirmed that his condition is now stable and satisfactory, and he has been advised to take complete rest.

Family members said that the former premier is recovering well, while his close associates and party leaders have appealed to the public to pray for his speedy recovery.

Medical officials have declared Abbasi’s condition out of danger, though he is expected to remain under observation for a few days.

Abbasi, who served as prime minister from 2017 to 2018, has been a prominent voice in national politics. Recently, he remarked that “the country will not run until we follow the Constitution,” reiterating the importance of adherence to democratic principles.

It may be recalled that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi left the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) last year and launched his own political party, the Awam Pakistan Party, which has been formally registered with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The party’s intra-party elections were completed and details submitted to the commission on June 26.
