Former Sri Lanka all-rounder Shehan Jayasuriya to play for US in T20 World Cup

WEB DESK: Former Sri Lanka international Shehan Jayasuriya is set to make his debut for the United States in next month’s T20 World Cup, after being named in the 15-member squad for the global tournament on Friday.
The 34-year-old all-rounder played 12 ODIs and 18 T20Is for Sri Lanka, including the 2016 T20 World Cup, before retiring from all forms of cricket in 2021. A left-handed batsman and right-arm spinner, Jayasuriya later moved to the United States with his family and has played in several franchise-based T20 leagues, including Major League Cricket in the US.
Pakistan-born Mohammad Mohsin is also in contention for his U.S. debut, while Shubham Ranjane, grandson of former India international Vasant Ranjane, has been included in the squad captained by Monank Patel.
The United States will play in their second T20 World Cup, having reached the Super Eight stage at home in 2024. Their opening Group A match is against defending champions India, who are co-hosting the tournament with Sri Lanka, on 7 February.
