STOCKTON: A child’s birthday celebration turned tragic Saturday evening when shooting broke out at an ice cream shop in Stockton, California. The incident left four people dead and several others wounded, according to officials.

The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called around 6 PM local time to the 1900 block of Lucile Avenue, where reports of a shooting had been made.

Stockton Vice Mayor Jason Lee confirmed in a social media post that the violence occurred during a birthday gathering being held at the ice cream parlor. He expressed deep sorrow and outrage, saying the incident had shaken the community.

Lee said in a statement, “Tonight, my heart is heavy in a way that’s hard to put into words. As Vice Mayor of Stockton, and as someone who grew up in this community, I am devastated.”

At a later briefing, Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Heather Brent stated that 14 people were shot, with four victims succumbing to their injuries. Authorities have not released information about the ages or identities of those affected.

Lee said he is working closely with city staff and public safety officials to learn more about what led to the attack, stressing that families deserve clear answers and support.

The suspect is reportedly still at large. Deputies continued to secure the scene Saturday night and urged residents to stay away from the area as the investigation remains active.
