Security forces killed four terrorists during an intelligence-based operation in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, security sources said, as clearance operations continued in the area to eliminate any remaining militants.

A large quantity of weapons and ammunition was recovered from the possession of those killed, the sources said.

The operation was carried out under the Azm-e-Istehkam vision, according to the sources, who said security forces remained committed to eliminating terrorism from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and establishing lasting peace.

Pakistan has witnessed a sharp rise in cross-border militant attacks, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in 2021.

The country recorded its highest monthly number of militant attacks in 12 years in September 2026.

Islamabad has repeatedly called on Kabul to prevent militant groups from using Afghan territory to launch attacks inside Pakistan. Pakistan maintains that the Afghan Taliban authorities have not taken effective action against groups responsible for attacks on Pakistani security forces and civilians.

Despite several rounds of talks, the two sides have yet to resolve their differences. The presence of militant groups on Afghan soil remains a major point of contention between Islamabad and Kabul.
