French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that France and the United Kingdom will soon convene a joint conference to explore a possible multinational naval initiative aimed at safeguarding navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement on X, Macron said the proposed discussions would bring together countries willing to support a peaceful effort to ensure the safe passage of vessels through the strategically vital waterway. He emphasised that the initiative would focus solely on maintaining maritime security and stability.

The French leader clarified that any potential deployment would be strictly defensive in nature and would not involve participation in ongoing hostilities in the region. He stressed that the mission would remain independent of the parties engaged in conflict, underlining its neutral and protective role.

According to Macron, the objective is to restore confidence in one of the world’s most critical shipping routes, which plays a key role in global energy supply chains. The Strait of Hormuz is a major transit point for oil and gas exports, making its security a top priority for international stakeholders.

He added that the mission could be launched once conditions on the ground allow for safe and effective implementation.

The announcement comes amid rising tensions in the region, with several countries expressing concern over potential disruptions to maritime trade. France and the UK are seeking to build consensus around a coordinated response that prioritises stability while avoiding escalation.
