A powerful explosion was heard over Jerusalem early on Tuesday after Israel’s military announced it had detected another missile launch from Iran, according to AFP. Reporters in the city said the blast came minutes after the military issued an alert saying it was attempting to intercept the incoming threat.
The launch marked the second Iranian missile attack reported by Israel in a matter of hours, adding to fears of a widening regional conflict.
Israel says Iran launched another barrage
Earlier in the day, the Israeli military said Iran had fired missiles towards northern Israel, prompting renewed air defence activity. The military said it was working to stop the projectiles before impact.
Israel’s emergency service, Magen David Adom, said there were no immediate reports of casualties following the latest barrage. However, paramedics were sent to one location after a possible missile impact was reported.
The attack came shortly after US President Donald Trump said Washington had been in contact with an unnamed Iranian official, a claim Tehran later rejected.
Missile strike reported on Syrian military base
Meanwhile, Syria said one of its military positions in the northeast had come under missile fire from across the Iraqi border. In a statement, the Syrian army said the base near al-Yarubiyah in Hasakeh province had been targeted.
An Iraqi security official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told AFP that a local armed faction had launched seven Arash-4 rockets at a site in the Hassakeh region. He said the launcher used in the attack was later found abandoned in the Rabia area near the Syrian frontier.
Earlier, an Iraqi official and a Syrian war monitor had also reported a rocket attack on a base in northeastern Syria that had recently been vacated by US-led coalition troops. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed the strike but did not provide details on damage or casualties.
Israeli strikes hit Beirut’s southern suburbs
In Lebanon, Israeli air strikes struck Beirut’s southern suburbs, an area widely regarded as a Hezbollah stronghold, in the first such attack there in several days. Israel said it was targeting Hezbollah infrastructure and had warned residents to evacuate the area beforehand.
A separate strike earlier hit Hazmieh, an affluent largely Christian district near Beirut. Israel claimed that attack targeted a member of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards’ foreign operations branch.
Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported multiple strikes, while AFPTV footage showed smoke rising over the southern outskirts of the capital.
Israel’s military also said it had captured two Hezbollah members in southern Lebanon.
Macron warns occupation cannot deliver security
In Paris, French President Emmanuel Macron used a public appearance alongside Lebanon’s culture minister Ghassan Salame to issue a pointed warning against occupation, in remarks widely seen as directed at Israel.
Speaking at the opening of an exhibition at the Arab World Institute, Macron said no occupation or form of colonisation could guarantee anyone’s security. He called for adherence to international law and pushed back against the idea that invading a feared neighbour could create lasting safety.
His comments came as the fighting continued to spill across borders, drawing in Lebanon, Syria and Iraq alongside the direct confrontation between Iran and Israel.
