Friday weather: rain, snowfall forecast for upper regions; dense fog to in plains

WEB DESK: Rain and snowfall are expected in upper parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir on Friday, said the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). Most other areas of the country will experience cold and dry weather. Dense fog is likely to affect large parts of the plains, particularly in Punjab, upper Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, potentially disrupting road and air travel.

Going region by region, PMD said that in Islamabad and surrounding areas, the weather is expected to remain cold and partly cloudy, with fog likely to form at a few places during the morning hours.

Across Punjab, cold and dry conditions are forecast for most districts, while Murree, Galiyat and adjoining areas are likely to remain extremely cold with partly cloudy skies. Moderate to severe fog is expected in a wide range of districts, including Sialkot, Narowal, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Okara, Pakpattan, Kasur, Sahiwal, Khanewal, Faisalabad, Jhang, Mianwali, Layyah, Bhakkar, Noorpur Thal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Shorkot, Multan, Kot Addu, Bahawalnagar, Khanpur, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan.

In Sindh, cold and dry weather will prevail in most districts. However, moderate to severe fog is likely in the morning hours over several areas, including Sukkur, Rohri, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Shaheed Benazirabad, Dadu, Larkana, Tando Jam, Mohenjo Daro and Karachi, particularly in coastal and adjoining regions.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is expected to remain cold and dry in most districts, while partly cloudy conditions are forecast for Chitral, Malam Jabba, Swat, Dir, Kalam, Battagram, Abbottabad, Kohistan, Malakand and Mansehra. Moderate to heavy fog is likely in Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Bannu, Karak, Lakki Marwat and Dera Ismail Khan during the morning and night hours.

In Balochistan, cold and dry weather is expected across most districts, with very cold and partly cloudy conditions in the northern areas. Fog is likely to develop in the morning over coastal and adjoining regions, including Dera Bugti, Kohlu, Dera Murad Jamali, Jafarabad, Naseerabad, Jhal Magsi, Sibi and Makran.

Meanwhile, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan are forecast to experience extremely cold and partly cloudy weather, with the possibility of rain and snowfall accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms.
