Fujairah port operations suspended after drone strike sparks blaze at industrial zone

WEB DESK: A major fire has broken out at an industrial zone in the United Arab Emirates’ emirate of Fujairah following a targeted drone strike on Monday. The Fujairah Government Media Office confirmed the incident, stating that emergency services were immediately deployed to the scene to combat the flames.

According to Al Jazeera, the blaze sent plumes of thick black smoke across the skyline, officials have confirmed that there have been no casualties or injuries reported in the immediate aftermath.

Emergency response and safety measures

Civil defence teams are currently working to bring the fire under control at the Fujairah Oil Industries Zone (FOIZ). Security cordons have been established around the affected area to allow fire crews unimpeded access to the site.

Authorities have issued a stern warning to the public against the dissemination of unverified footage or “rumours” on social media, urging residents to rely solely on official channels for updates as the situation develops.

Impact on global energy shipping

As a direct result of the strike, all oil loading operations at the Port of Fujairah a critical global energy hub have been suspended until further notice. The port is a vital strategic asset for the UAE, allowing crude oil to bypass the volatile Strait of Hormuz.

This suspension comes amid a morning of heightened regional tension, following reports of separate drone activity that briefly disrupted flight operations at Dubai International Airport earlier today.
