G-B declares emergency in hospitals amid Pak-India tensions

GILGIT: In response to India’s recent aggression, an emergency has been declared in public hospitals across Gilgit-Baltistan.
All hospital staff leaves have been canceled, and doctors have been instructed to admit only critically ill patients to keep maximum beds vacant for potential emergencies.
The decision was made during a high-level meeting held under the chair of G-B Chief Secretary Ibrar Ahmed. The meeting was attended by senior officials, including provincial secretaries, commissioners, deputy commissioners and the director-general of GBDMA.
The G-B home secretary provided a detailed briefing on potential risks following India’s recent airspace violation.

The G-B chief secretary emphasised that the government was fully prepared to handle any emergency.
To ensure prompt medical facilities during emergencies, the meeting directed the Health Department to keep all hospitals on high alert and ensure full functionality.
The meeting also decided ensure blood reserves and launch a blood donation campaign.
Commissioners and deputy commissioners were directed to ensure the government’s machinery fully functional and ensure uninterrupted communication systems.
Furthermore, the meeting directed the food department to review of food and grain reserves to meet any potential needs.
The meeting directed the home secretary and excise and taxation secretary to inspect POL depots to ensure fuel availability.
Deputy commissioners were instructed to maintain close contact with all communities, particularly those in border areas, and keep them informed about the latest situation.
The chief secretary reiterated the government’s commitment to utilizing all resources to effectively handle any potential situation, prioritizing public safety and security.
