G-B govt, China’s Gansu province sign MoU to bolster agricultural ties

GILGIT: In a significant development, Gilgit-Baltistan and China’s Gansu province have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to facilitate the transfer of high-mountain agriculture technology and machinery from China to G-B.

According to a statement issued by the Gilgit-Baltistan Information Department on Friday, a delegation from the G-B government, including Chairman Reforms and Initiative Gilgit-Baltistan Amjad Hussain Advocate, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock & Fisheries Muhammad Anwar, Secretary of Agriculture Tariq Hussain, Provincial Coordinator ETI Khadim Hussain, and other officials, visited Lanzhou, the capital city of Gansu Province. There, they signed the crucial MoU to promote agricultural cooperation between the two regions.

The collaboration aims to leverage the expertise and resources of Gansu province to advance agricultural development in Gilgit-Baltistan. The transfer of high-mountain agriculture technology and machinery from China is expected to have a positive impact on the agricultural sector of the region. Given its rugged terrain and unique climatic conditions, Gilgit-Baltistan holds immense potential for high-altitude agriculture.

The technology and machinery provided by China will assist local farmers in increasing production, improving crop quality, and enhancing overall agricultural yield.

The MoU marks a significant step forward in strengthening the partnership between Gansu Province and Gilgit-Baltistan and aligns with the Gilgit-Baltistan government’s strategy to mitigate food shortages in the region by utilizing China’s advanced agricultural technology and modern irrigation methods.
