G-B govt introduces fleet fuel cards to curb misuse of resources

ISLAMABAD: The Gilgit-Baltistan government has decided to implement a fleet fuel card system within government departments to curb the indiscriminate use of resources.

The initiative aims to control the unrestrained use of official resources by government servants and departments.

According to sources, on the directive of G-B Chief Secretary, Mohiuddin Wani, the fleet fuel card system will be enforced from November 1, 2023.

The chief secretary has instructed all administrative secretaries and heads of government departments to ensure the implementation of the fleet fuel card system for refueling government vehicles.

Furthermore, the chief secretary has directed all fuel stations in G-B, as well as deputy commissioners, to ensure the secure utilisation of the fuel card system.

To prevent the improper use of fuel and bring transparency, authorised government officials will be provided with fuel allocation within a defined limit through the fuel card system.

The implementation of the fleet fuel card system is anticipated to lead to fuel savings and reduce the financial burden on exchequer.

The fleet card will have specified limits and will be integrated with a computerised system. This will enable the monitoring of fuel consumption for all government vehicles and ensure the prevention of any unwarranted fuel wastage.

The introduction of this system is aimed at promoting efficient resource management and transparency in government vehicle fuel consumption.
