A Game of Thrones movie is reportedly in development at Warner Bros, marking a major step toward bringing George R.R. Martin’s fantasy world to the big screen.
The planned film is expected to focus on the legendary conquest of Westeros by Aegon Targaryen, one of the most important events in the history of Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire universe.
The story takes place roughly 300 years before the events of the original HBO series, when Aegon united six of the Seven Kingdoms and established the Targaryen dynasty that would rule Westeros for centuries.
Reports say writer Beau Willimon, known for House of Cards and the Star Wars series Andor, has been recruited to work on the script.

If confirmed, the project would be the first theatrical film set in the Game of Thrones universe, which has so far expanded through television spin-offs.
The original HBO series aired between 2011 and 2019 and became one of the most successful fantasy shows in television history, winning dozens of awards and building a massive global fan base.
The franchise has continued to grow with several spin-offs, including the hit prequel series House of the Dragon, which explores the Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons.
A third season of House of the Dragon is expected to premiere in June.

Another spin-off, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, recently drew strong viewership and has already been renewed for a second season.
Beyond television, the world of Westeros is also expanding into theatre. A stage production titled Game of Thrones: The Mad King is set to premiere this summer at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon.
Meanwhile, Martin continues work on The Winds of Winter, the long-awaited sixth book in his A Song of Ice and Fireseries.
Warner Bros has not yet confirmed casting, a director or a release date for the reported film.
