ISLAMABAD: A gas cylinder explosion in the basement canteen of the Supreme Court injured four people on Tuesday. The powerful blast shook the entire building, prompting an immediate response from rescue and security teams.
The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, and one of them is reported to be in critical condition. The Bomb Disposal Squad also arrived at the scene and began collecting evidence to determine the cause of the explosion.
The blast caused damage to furniture inside the canteen, shattered the glass at the Bar Association’s reception area, and also affected Courtroom No. 6. At the time of the incident, Justice Ali Baqar Najafi and Justice Malik Shahzad were hearing a case.
According to rescue officials, the explosion occurred during maintenance work on an air-conditioning gas plant, which caused tremors across the building. Following the blast, lawyers and court staff quickly evacuated to open areas outside the Supreme Court.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
