ISLAMABAD: At least four people including some students were injured after a gas leak triggered an explosion at the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) University in Islamabad’s H-9 Sector on Tuesday.
The injured were shifted to a hospital for treatment.
The gas leak sparked a fire, before rescue teams along with fire tenders reached the site and brought the blaze under control.
The identity of the inured could not be ascertained immediately.
The incident occurred at Block 131 near Gate No-3 of the university campus. Emergency services rushed to the scene following the blast.
Authorities confirmed that the explosion was caused by a gas cylinder, and rescue teams quickly secured the area. Details regarding injuries or property damage are yet to be confirmed. Further updates are expected as investigation continues.
The NUML was established in 1969 as an institute dedicated to teaching modern languages. The institute initially catered to personnel of the armed forces and other government departments, offering specialised language training.
In May 2000, it was granted a federal charter and upgraded to a full-fledged university.
