Gaza peace plan: Pakistan invited to join Trump’s proposed ‘Board of Peace’ for Gaza

Pakistan receives invitation to join Trump’s proposed 'board of peace' for Gaza

Islamabad: Pakistan has received an invitation from US President Donald Trump to join the proposed “Board of Peace,” a global initiative aimed at promoting stability, humanitarian aid, and reconstruction in Gaza, the Foreign Office confirmed on Sunday.

The invitation comes under a proposed international framework that suggests involving world leaders and countries to address the ongoing crisis in the region.

Pakistan has made it clear that an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, protection of Palestinian civilians, and uninterrupted humanitarian assistance remain its top priorities. The country also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting regional peace, stability, and a political solution.

The proposed board is expected to coordinate global efforts for the relief and reconstruction of Gaza, emphasising the role of the international community in addressing the humanitarian situation.

The proposed board is also expected to supervise Gaza during a transitional phase following a fragile ceasefire that has been in place since October.

In response to Trump’s invitation, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs added, “Pakistan will remain engaged with international efforts for peace and security in Gaza, leading to a lasting solution to the Palestine issue in accordance with United Nations resolutions.”

The statement said that the initiative seeks to bring world leaders together to coordinate post-ceasefire stabilisation, restore basic services, ensure humanitarian access, and work toward long-term political solutions.

The officials added that Pakistan’s participation or positive response is not based on the politics of any particular bloc, but on practical support to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people, especially innocent and defenceless civilians in Gaza, and to advance a just and sustainable solution.

The panel for the Gaza “Board of Peace” includes US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, World Bank President Ajay Banga, former British premier Tony Blair, and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.

Meanwhile, the same invitation has also been sent to other top officials, with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirming that they had received the letter.

It was not immediately made clear how many other leaders would receive invitations.

The moves came after a Palestinian committee of technocrats meant to govern Gaza held its first meeting in Cairo, which was attended by Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, who has partnered with Witkoff for months on the issue.

The US President Donald Trump has said, “Now it is time to turn all of these dreams into reality”, “At the heart of the plan is the Board of Peace, the most impressive and consequential board ever assembled, which will be established as a new International Organisation and Transitional Governing Administration.”

Regarding Trump’s peace plan, the UN head of the International Crisis Group affairs, Daniel Forti, said, “This is a US shortcut in an attempt to wield its veto power on world affairs.”

His statement added, “It allows the US to really take the role it has on the Gaza-Israel file, where it’s able to shape things to its will and try to extend that to other conflicts.”

Appreciating Trump’s proposed plan for Gaza, he added that this idea would be a mechanism in which world leaders would be involved, whereby they would all try to sidestep longstanding agreements on sovereignty and territorial integrity in exchange for transactional deals.
