WEB DESK: A young man from Beit Hanoun, Hasan Nasser, who survived the ongoing genocide in Gaza, has arrived in Islamabad on a scholarship, seeking medical treatment and a chance to rebuild his life. He lost his leg and nearly all his possessions during the violence and initially travelled to Egypt for care but was unable to receive treatment due to the severity of his injuries. “I was evacuated alone, while my family is still in Gaza. There’s no treatment available for me in Egypt because my leg was amputated from the hip joint,” he explained on X formerly Twitter.
Taking his first-ever flight, he shared his feelings of hope and gratitude.
“As a survivor of genocide who lost a leg, today I took my first-ever flight. I’m now in Pakistan, carrying both pain and hope with me. Grateful for the chance to rebuild my life, step by step. I feel like I’m among family in Islamabad,” he shared.
He also addressed criticism online, reaffirming his identity as a Gazan despite changing locations on social media. His story reflects the sheer resilience of survivors seeking safety, healthcare, and education after unimaginable trauma.
Humanitarian advocates reminded supporters to help those who remain in Gaza, urging donations and international pressure to protect civilians. Pakistani authorities and educational institutions have welcomed him, offering support as he begins this new chapter, symbolising courage, survival, and the determination to move forward.
