GB Assembly dissolution

WEB DESK: The Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly is set to dissolve at midnight on Monday, marking the end of Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan’s government, with a caretaker setup expected to be formed as early as Tuesday.

Sources revealed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is likely to announce the name of the caretaker chief minister later tonight. A three-person summary has reportedly been sent to the PM, containing the names of Mustafa Madni Rawat, Mohammad Ali Qaed and Raja Nazim.

The matter was forwarded to the prime minister after the government and opposition failed to reach consensus on a single candidate for the caretaker slot, as required under the procedure.

With the assembly’s term expiring at 12am, the region is preparing for the transition to an interim administration that will oversee affairs until elections are held. Officials say the caretaker government could be notified as soon as Tuesday.
