German tourist robbed in Islamabad, police recover bicycle

ISLAMABAD: A German cyclist travelling around the world was robbed in Islamabad, police said on Friday, raising questions about security in the Pakistani capital.

Philipp Seim, who is touring various countries on a global cycling trip, had set up camp in the Khanna area along the Islamabad Expressway to spend the night, police sources said.

According to reports, when he woke up the next morning, his bicycle and a valuable camera had been stolen.

Following a request from the German embassy, Islamabad police launched an immediate operation and later recovered the bicycle, officials said.

Police said the investigation was ongoing and that suspects involved in the theft had been arrested.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of foreign tourists in the capital, although authorities said efforts were being made to ensure better protection for visitors.
