GILGIT: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) of Gilgit-Baltistan on Saturday apprehended former Medical Superintendent (MS) Ahmed Hassan in connection with the City Hospital medicine embezzlement case.
Ahmed Hassan had obtained bail from the Special Court against his arrest. However, the prosecution wing of ACE Gilgit-Baltistan challenged the decision in the Chief Court, which annulled the Special Court’s decision on Saturday and ordered the arrest of the accused. In a swift action, the Anti-Corruption Police arrested Ahmed Hassan outside the Chief Court premises.
The embezzlement case has seen significant developments recently. Earlier this year, ACE Gilgit-Baltistan arrested two individuals – a hospital employee and a contractor – who were involved in the illicit sale of medicines worth millions of rupees allocated for the hospital. These medicines, intended for patients in need, were being sold illegally. The arrested hospital staff allegedly diverted these medicines to private pharmacies for personal profit.

The arrests were made following an investigation that revealed a systematic effort by the culprits to exploit their positions within the healthcare system for monetary gain. The authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to eradicating corruption and ensuring that healthcare resources are utilized for the benefit of the public.
