G-B elections set for tomorrow, full preparations completed across 24 constituencies

GILGIT: Preparations for the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly elections have been completed, with polling set to take place tomorrow across all 24 constituencies.
According to election authorities and District Returning Officers, all necessary arrangements, including the distribution of polling materials and deployment of staff, have been finalised to ensure a smooth and transparent voting process.
Polling will begin at 8.00AM and continue without interruption until 5.00PM.
The Election Commission said a total of 958,000 registered voters will exercise their right to vote across the region. To facilitate the process, 1,389 polling stations and 2,450 polling booths have been established. Among the booths, 1,112 are reserved for women, 1,268 for men, while 68 are combined.
In Chilas district, officials confirmed that preparations are also complete. A total of 173 polling stations have been set up in four constituencies, including 68 male, 67 female, and 38 combined polling stations. Additionally, 381 polling booths have been established to ensure uninterrupted polling.
The District Returning Officer (DRO) said that around 160,000 registered voters in the district will be able to cast their votes. He added that administrative bodies, police, and law enforcement agencies will remain on high alert during the polling process.
Security has been tightened across Gilgit-Baltistan, with GB Scouts, police, Rangers, and additional forces deployed to maintain peace and order.
A total of 404 candidates are contesting the elections, including 396 male and 8 female candidates. A large number of 266 independent candidates are also in the race, alongside candidates from major political parties.
Authorities said all logistics and administrative steps have been completed to ensure peaceful and transparent elections across the region.
