GILGIT: A significant disruption in mobile network services left hundreds of residents in Gilgit without phone coverage, causing widespread inconvenience and frustration.
Major telecommunication providers, including Zong, Telenor, and Jazz, experienced outages that began early in the day, with services only being restored after 3:30pm. However, Scom services remained available throughout the day, offering a lifeline to those affected by the outages.
Upon investigation, Hum News English reached out to the affected service providers for comments on the situation. Telenor was the first to acknowledge the issue, with spokesperson Ahmed issuing an apology to their customers. “We are aware of the data outage in your area and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused. Our team is actively working to resolve the issue, and we expect to restore services soon,” Ahmed stated.

In contrast, Zong’s response seemed to downplay the severity of the situation. “You should not be having trouble with signals in that area,” a representative commented, despite numerous complaints from Zong customers about the lack of service availability throughout the day.
Jazz customers also faced similar challenges, with reports of failed attempts to make calls. Zeeshan, a Jazz customer, expressed his frustration to Hum News English, stating, “I was trying to reach my office on call, but the absence of network left me with no choice but to wait.” Attempts to contact Jazz’s customer service center via email for a statement went unanswered.
