ISLAMABAD: Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen have pulled off a major signing ahead of the 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), announcing Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell as part of their squad. The tournament is set to run from March 26 to May 3.
Maxwell, known for his explosive batting and handy off-spin, has been one of Australia’s standout T20 performers. In 129 T20 internationals, he has scored 2,897 runs at a strike rate of 158.42, including five centuries and 12 half-centuries, with a highest score of 145. He has also picked up 49 wickets with his off-spin.
The 34-year-old brings a wealth of franchise experience, having featured in the Big Bash League (BBL), Indian Premier League (IPL), The Hundred, and Vitality Blast. Across 502 T20 matches, Maxwell has amassed 10,986 runs at a strike rate of 154.16, along with 196 wickets, making him a genuine all-round asset.
Maxwell will make his PSL debut this season and is expected to add firepower and experience to the Kingsmen lineup. Earlier this month, Australia’s top-order batter Marnus Labuschagne was also confirmed as a direct signing for the franchise.
This season’s PSL marks a major change, with the league holding its first-ever player auction at the Expo Centre, replacing the draft system that had been used since the league began in 2016. The league has also expanded, adding two new franchises: Sialkot Stallionz and Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen. Existing teams were allowed to retain only four players each, making squad building more competitive than ever.
Speaking about joining PSL, Maxwell said, “I am happy to be part of the Pakistan Super League and to represent Hyderabad. I have always received a lot of love from Pakistan. It is an honour to represent the Hyderabad team. See you in PSL!”
Maxwell’s inclusion is expected to raise the excitement for PSL 11, which promises a star-studded lineup of international players.
