Global condemnation after Islamabad Imambargah attack

WEB DESK: The international community has come together in a wave of condemnation and solidarity following the suicide bombing at the Khadija Tul Kubra Imambargah in Islamabad, which killed 31 worshippers and injured over 169 during Friday prayers. World leaders and organisations described the attack on a sacred place of worship as a heinous crime against humanity.

The United Nations condemned the blast in the strongest terms, urging that the perpetrators be brought to justice, while Saudi Arabia and Turkiye expressed firm condemnation and pledged continued support for Pakistan’s fight against terrorism. The United Kingdom, Iran, and the European Union also denounced the attack, offering condolences to the victims and reaffirming opposition to all forms of extremism.

Domestically, Pakistan’s leaders emphasised unity and resolve, with Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar calling the attack a violation of Islamic principles. The bombing has also heightened regional tensions, as Pakistani authorities alleged that the attacker received training in Afghanistan, prompting a sharp exchange with Kabul.

Meanwhile, India condemned the attack and offered condolences but dismissed claims of external involvement as baseless. Political parties across Pakistan, including the PTI and JUI-F, have set aside differences to demand a thorough investigation into the security lapse.

Hospitals in Islamabad remain under state of emergency, with doctors working to save critically injured patients, and security has been tightened at religious sites nationwide to prevent further tragedy.
