WEB DESK: Cricket’s global franchise stars have descended on Guyana as the Global Super League 2026 gets underway, five champion teams, one trophy, and a $1 million prize pool on the line.

For fans who can’t get enough of T20 cricket’s biggest names sharing a pitch, the GSL is unmissable. Here’s everything you need to know: the teams, the players, and the full schedule.

What Is the Global Super League?

The Global Super League is an invitation-only T20 showdown organised by Cricket West Indies, pitting the champion sides of five major franchise leagues against each other: the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Big Bash League (BBL), International League T20 (ILT20), Major League Cricket (MLC), and hosts Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Now in its third edition, the tournament runs July 23 to August 1, 2026, with every match staged at Providence Stadium in Guyana.

Fans have long drawn comparisons to the old Champions League T20 — same premise, same appeal: the world’s best domestic franchises going head-to-head for global bragging rights.

Which Teams Are Playing in GSL 2026?

Five sides are chasing the title this year:

  • Guyana Amazon Warriors — defending champions, flying the CPL flag
  • Lahore Qalandars — representing the PSL
  • Perth Scorchers XI — BBL 2025–26 champions
  • Desert Vipers — ILT20 2026 champions
  • San Francisco Unicorns — carrying the MLC banner

The Amazon Warriors are the team to beat. Fresh off a 32-run demolition of the Rangpur Riders in last year’s final, they’ll be out to defend their crown in front of a home crowd.

Star Players to Watch

The tournament boasts serious firepower, with names like Andries Gous, Veerasammy Permaul, Abdullah Shafique, Andre Fletcher, Usman Khan, Aaron Hardie, and Connor Esterhuizen all in the mix.

Here’s a closer look at the key players from each squad:

Team Notable Players
Guyana Amazon Warriors Rovman Powell, Johnson Charles, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Matthew Forde, Mohammad Nabi
Lahore Qalandars Shaheen Shah Afridi (Captain), Fakhar Zaman, Abdullah Shafique, Sikandar Raza, Haris Rauf

San Francisco Unicorns Connor Esterhuizen, Tim Robinson, Ollie Peake, Hassan Khan, Sanjay Krishnamurthy

Last season’s top performers also give a sense of the talent on show. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 139 runs for the Guyana Amazon Warriors, while Imran Tahir picked up 14 wickets, also for the Warriors, to top the wicket-taking charts.

Tournament Format

The format is straightforward. All five teams play each other once in the league stage, making up 10 round-robin matches. After that:

  • The top two teams go straight to the final.
  • The second and third-placed teams face off in a Qualifier for the last spot in the final.

In total, 12 matches will be played across the tournament, all at a single venue — Providence Stadium in Guyana.
