WEB DESK: The government has announced an increase in petroleum product prices, raising the cost of petrol by Rs8 per litre and high-speed diesel by Rs5.16 per litre.
According to an official notification, the new price of petrol has been set at Rs266.17 per litre, while high-speed diesel will now cost Rs280.86 per litre. The revised rates will take effect from midnight tonight.
Following the increase, concerns have emerged about a possible rise in transport fares and the prices of essential goods. Citizens have expressed worry over the hike, while experts say fluctuations in global oil markets continue to impact domestic fuel prices.
