ISLAMABAD: The government has increased the prices of petrol and diesel by over Rs4 per litre for the next fortnight, with the revised rates taking effect from October 1.
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Finance, petrol price has been raised by Rs4.07 per litre, bringing the new rate to Rs268.68 per litre. The price of high-speed diesel has been increased by Rs4.04 per litre, setting the new rate at Rs276.81 per litre.
According to a notification, the new prices will remain in place until October 15. The hike comes as part of the government’s routine price review, which takes into account global oil trends and currency fluctuations.
Officials said the revision was necessary to adjust for higher import costs and maintain fuel supply stability.
Petrol and diesel are the two most widely consumed fuels in the country, and any increase directly impacts transport and commodity prices, raising concerns over inflationary pressure on households.
Earlier, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) announced to cut the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by Rs6.71 per kg from October 1.
According to a notification issued by the OGRA, the new price of LPG has been fixed at Rs207.49 per kg.
The price of an 11.8-kg domestic cylinder has been reduced by Rs79.14, bringing its new cost to Rs2,448.33.
