Govt rejects Taliban Wana drone attack claims; PM praises security forces’ anti-terror successes

The Information Ministry on Sunday dismissed recent claims by the Afghan Taliban about a drone attack in Wana of South Waziristan.

Officials said that a simple-type drone was destroyed using soft-kill measures and that no military installations or infrastructure were harmed.

According to a statement issued by the government, “The Taliban’s claim is false and amounts to fabricated propaganda.”

The ministry released images of the destroyed drone as evidence as well, while the previous Taliban claims of shooting down a Pakistani fighting jet and capturing its pilot were also proven wrong.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended Pakistan’s security forces for their continued successes against terrorism in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The PM Shehbaz also praised the KP Police and the Counter-Terrorism Department for their successful operations in Kohat, where six terrorists were killed, and in Lakki Marwat, where five Fida-ul-Khawarij militants were neutralised.

“The security forces are achieving major victories in the fight against terrorism, and the entire nation stands united with them,” the PM said.

He reaffirmed the government’s determination to completely eradicate all forms of terrorism from Pakistan.
