Govt requests ECP to retain Islamabad police IG and DC ahead of polls

ISLAMABAD: The caretaker federal government has urged the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to retain Islamabad Police Inspector General Dr Akbar Nasir Khan and Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon, sources said on Thursday.

The request was made by Secretary Interior Aftab Durrani, who met with ECP Secretary Umar Hameed to discuss the transfer issue of the two senior officials, according to the sources.

They said that the interior secretary argued that the police IG and DC Islamabad should not be changed as the general election was near.

The ECP has already appointed DC Islamabad as the returning officer for the capital.
