Govt targeting armed elements, not specific group: Mohsin Naqvi

Govt targeting armed elements

KARACHI: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said that the federal government is not taking action against any specific organisation, but against those who are armed or involved in collecting donations illegally.

Talking to the media in Karachi alongside Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori and MQM Pakistan Convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, the interior minister said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir are working tirelessly, which has brought positive results. Now, what we need most is unity.”

He clarified that reports circulating on social media suggesting the federal government is targeting a single group are false. “We respect all religious scholars, but anyone who carries weapons will face action. Similarly, those involved in illegal fundraising will also be dealt with,” he said.

Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori said, “When you turn on the TV, you can’t tell which city you’re in. Your name is also Mohsin, and you truly are everyone’s benefactor.” He said that when issues arise between parties, they are invited to help find solutions.

The governor said the interior minister also met Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman in Karachi and is actively working on resolving key issues. “He is also working for peace and leading the operation against the ‘Khawarij Fitna’,” he added.

Tessori praised Naqvi’s multiple roles, saying, “Besides being the interior minister, he is also the PCB chairman and president of the Asian Cricket Council — and even refused to hand the trophy to the Indian team after their win.”

He went on to say that while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was known for his speed, “he now admits that Mohsin Naqvi’s pace is even faster.”

MQM-Pakistan chief and Federal Minister for Education Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said it was encouraging that the MQM was being given due importance. “We have always stood by Pakistan’s armed forces,” he said.

He noted that the Sindh governor represents both the MQM and the federal government and that Naqvi listens to their concerns and works to resolve them.

Governor Tessori added that “the interior minister not only hears their issues but also ensures their resolution. We hope he will continue to work for the improvement of law and order in Karachi.”

Minister Naqvi assured that hurdles in Karachi’s development projects would soon be removed and vowed to strengthen peace and security in the city.

Earlier, the interior minister met with Tessori and Maqbool Siddiqui, Dr Farooq Sattar and Aminul Haq at the Governor House, where they discussed national security, peace, and other key matters.

Governor Tessori welcomed Naqvi upon his arrival, and the minister also planted a sapling at the Governor House.
