ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Climate Change Dr Musadik Malik has announced that the government is setting up new mechanisms to support young entrepreneurs with viable climate and green business ideas by giving them access to funding.

In an interview with Radio Pakistan, the minister said dedicated centers are being established to develop climate projects that meet international standards, enabling Pakistan to tap global climate finance more efficiently.

Minister Malik also praised provincial initiatives, particularly in Punjab, highlighting programs such as the Green Credit Program, promotion of electric vehicles, cycling initiatives, women empowerment projects, and the Suthra Punjab initiative. He noted that coordinated efforts have led to a reduction in smog levels this year, reflecting improved policy implementation.

On the global stage, the minister emphasized that Pakistan has intensified climate diplomacy to highlight the disproportionate impacts of climate change on countries that contribute little to global emissions. He pointed out that rising carbon emissions are causing higher temperatures, glacier melting, and devastating floods, hitting vulnerable nations hardest.

The minister called for climate compensation in the form of grants rather than loans, warning that additional debt burdens hinder investment in essential sectors such as health and education.
