Jay Klaitz, the voice behind Grand Theft Auto V’s Lester Crest, has defended reports suggesting Grand Theft Auto VI could launch with a $100 price tag, arguing the game’s extensive development and content justify the cost.
In an interview with The Escapist on October 29, Klaitz spoke about the years of work Rockstar Games invests in creating its blockbuster titles. He said the combination of lengthy development, intensive motion-capture sessions, and ongoing post-launch updates make GTA games feel like “multiple games” for the price of one.
“GTA V was so heavy on the mo-cap, and I assume GTA VI will be the same,” Klaitz said. “These games take years and years to make. They didn’t just start last year; the work began right after GTA V wrapped. By the time it’s finished, there will be new versions, downloadable content, and online features. You’re almost buying multiple games when you buy the one.”
Klaitz described the motion-capture process for GTA V, which took place in New York studios on Long Island. Actors performed full scenes on scaled sets, from stepping out of vehicles to moving through hallways, giving the characters their lifelike movements.
He also acknowledged concerns about affordability. “I would like to see it made more accessible to fans, so I get that argument too,” he said. “Maybe there’s a way to split the difference, but I share the view that this game warrants the price tag.”
Rockstar has confirmed that GTA VI is scheduled for release on May 26, 2026, for Xbox Series S|X and PlayStation 5, with a PC version expected to follow later. Fans can likely expect the same robust online expansions that kept GTA V active for years.
