The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Jordan have issued a joint statement condemning Iranian attacks in the region, calling them a “flagrant violation” of national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international law.
The six countries stressed that the strikes, carried out directly by Iran or through its proxies and armed factions, breach international humanitarian law and the Charter of the United Nations. They highlighted attacks originating from armed groups loyal to Iran in Iraq, which have targeted regional states and their critical infrastructure.
“These acts represent a clear breach of international laws and conventions,” the statement said, underlining that they violate United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), which calls for Iran to immediately and unconditionally halt all attacks or threats against neighboring nations, including through proxy forces.
The joint declaration shows growing regional concerns over Iran’s activities and the destabilising impact of its proxy networks, as Gulf states and Jordan reaffirm their commitment to defending sovereignty and maintaining regional stability.
Nearly four weeks into the escalating conflict, the US and Iran are sending conflicting signals over a potential ceasefire. US President Donald Trump claimed Iranian leaders “want to make a deal” but are hesitant to admit it publicly, fearing domestic backlash and further military pressure. In contrast, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi denied that formal talks are underway, stating that communications through intermediaries are limited to exchanging positions and issuing warnings rather than negotiations.
At the heart of the diplomatic standoff is a 15-point US ceasefire proposal, reportedly delivered via Pakistan, which calls for Iran to curb its nuclear program, halt enrichment, restrict missile development, and end support for regional allies. While Washington warns of intensified military pressure if Iran refuses, Israeli officials remain skeptical of Tehran’s willingness to accept the terms, concerned about operational constraints. Iran has also indicated that any ceasefire must include provisions regarding Lebanon, underscoring its broader regional strategy and alliances.
