Hainault: Man with sword arrested for stabbing boy

LONDON: A man wielding a sword was arrested in Hainault in northeastern part of London after stabbing a young boy multiple times to death on Tuesday.

According to reports, a man in his mid-30s could be seen carrying around a sword in the United Kingdon’s (UK) capital on Tuesday.

He was initially driving a car into a house with local law enforcement called to the scene. The man then reportedly went on a rampage, attacking and stabbing people. The man reportedly stabbed two police officers and a young boy, among other, with his sword during the rampage.

Local law enforcement were able to arrest the man later, while emergency services treated several people for injuries.

London authorities then reassured the public that there is no ongoing threat and are not actively seeking additional suspects in connection with the incident.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was quick to address the British nation, expressing his concern and solidarity with those affected. The British PM condemned the attack while asking the public to “refrain from speculating about the incident”. He also urged the public to provide “relevant information” to the law enforcement authorities.

Despite reassurances from the authorities, several videos circulating online paint a harrowing picture. A man in yellow shirt can be seen walking around with a sword. At one point, he randomly crouches to hide before straightening up and then brazenly walking around openly with the sword.

Several eyewitness account similarly tell of a disturbing tale. Several residents told media of waking up to pained screams ringing in their ears. Other posted online on their social media account about seeing people covered in blood on the streets.

The assailant could be seen later arrested by the police in yet another video recorded and uploaded on the internet. The video shows the assailant being restrained by the law enforcers.

The stabbing incident led to the closure of local train station temporarily. Authorities also advised commuters from other regions to not travel to Hainault.
