Harassment allegations: FOSPAH orders ride-hailing app to submit report

WEB DESK: The Federal Ombudsperson Secretariat for Protection against Harassment (FOSPAH) has issued a strong directive to ride-hailing app Yango Pakistan following serious allegations of sexual harassment against one of its drivers.

The complaint alleges that the driver made sexual advances, diverted from the designated route, and engaged in inappropriate behaviour during a booked ride. FOSPAH said the accusations are “serious” and require a thorough review of Yango’s internal safety and harassment-prevention mechanisms.

Under the order, Yango Pakistan must submit, within seven days, a statutory compliance report detailing:

  • The constitution of a legally mandated Inquiry Committee as per Section 3 of the Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act, 2010;
  • Proof of dissemination and display of the company’s official Code of Conduct (Section 11);
  • Internal procedures for handling harassment complaints;
  • Passenger-safety systems, including driver vetting, route monitoring, in-app safety tools, and staff training;
  • A full record of harassment-related complaints from the past three years.

A FOSPAH spokesperson stressed that ride-hailing companies “carry an elevated responsibility to ensure safe, dignified, and respectful travel environments, particularly for women who rely on these services daily.”

The Secretariat reaffirmed its commitment to holding digital mobility platforms accountable, warning that public safety cannot be compromised by procedural lapses or insufficient oversight. FOSPAH also urged passengers to report any harassment incidents promptly, promising swift and lawful action in all cases.

This is not the first time that commuters usually women have spoken out about alleged harassment cases for both Yango as well as InDrive. Yango, however, shared a tweet yesterday about their ‘safety’ feature.
