Haris Khokhar responds to allegations by influencer Dr Nabiha Ali Khan

ISLAMABAD: Haris Khokhar, the husband of Pakistani social media influencer Dr Nabiha Ali Khan, has responded publicly to allegations she made about difficulties in their marriage.

In a video statement, Khokhar said his wife was suffering from “doubt and suspicion”, which he described as a condition with “no cure”. He maintained that there had been no serious disputes between them and claimed she had been happier with him than in her parental home.

Mr Khokhar said tensions began after he started a new business. According to him, Dr Nabiha had insisted on accompanying him wherever he went. He argued that it was not appropriate to have his wife present at professional meetings, social gatherings with friends or other work-related engagements.

He added that whenever he planned to leave home for work, his wife would suspect that he was going elsewhere. Mr Khokhar said he had never been involved in any wrongdoing or illegal activity, but alleged that his wife remained mistrustful.

He also rejected claims of abuse, saying there had been no arguments involving violence or verbal insults. “There was no fight, no physical assault and I never used abusive language,” he said, adding that he simply wanted to work to support his household and fulfil family responsibilities.

Dr Nabiha Ali Khan, who announced her engagement and marriage to Mr Khokhar last year, had surprised her followers with the news at the time. However, within months, reports began circulating on social media about differences between the couple.

Speaking recently on a television programme, Dr Nabiha said her marriage was facing serious difficulties. She said the relationship had not yet ended, but acknowledged that circumstances could lead to divorce.

She also alleged that if the marriage were to break down, responsibility would lie with her husband’s family. According to her, Mr Khokhar was influenced by his parents and had adopted an unfair attitude towards her as a result.

Dr Nabiha questioned why she had been included in the marriage if her in-laws had already preferred another match for their son. She said she had devoted herself to the relationship, serving her mother-in-law “day and night”, managing household responsibilities and reducing her professional commitments in order to focus on married life.

Despite her efforts, she said, the situation had not improved.
