Haris Rauf ruled out of crucial South Africa clash due to injury

LAHORE: Pakistan’s fast bowler Haris Rauf has been ruled out of the upcoming match against South Africa after suffering a muscle strain during the game against New Zealand.

According to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Rauf underwent MRI and X-ray scans, which confirmed a strain in his lower chest muscles. While the injury is not considered serious, team management has decided to rest him as a precautionary measure, the PCB said

The PCB said that Rauf is expected to make a full recovery ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. However, in light of his ongoing rehabilitation, he would not be available in Pakistan’s match against South Africa scheduled for February 12.

Rauf’s absence is seen a significant setback for Pakistan, given his crucial role in the bowling attack. The PCB management is now considering alternative options to fill the void as they prepare for the must-win encounter.

Earlier on Sunday, South Africa cricket team captain Temba Bavuma said that they were ready to play good cricket in Pakistan.

Talking to the media in Lahore, Bavuma confirmed that Anrich Nortje has been ruled out of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy due to a back injury. He said that Corbin Bosch has been included in the squad as his replacement.

He said that the playing XI will be decided based on the conditions, and if two spinners were needed, they would be included in the team. He said that the team was united and determined to perform well.

Bavuma noted that South Africa was playing in Pakistan after a long time and that the tri-nation series ahead of the Champions Trophy will provide a good opportunity for preparation.

He said that Nortje’s injury was a significant setback for their cricket team but expressed confidence in Bosch, calling him a good player.
