Harry Brook hails Pakistani cricketers as ‘best in the world’; adds to India’s anxiety

LONDON: England cricket team captain Harry Brook has praised Pakistani players, calling them some of the best cricketers globally.

In a recent statement, Brook said it would be “a pity” if Pakistani players were not included in The Hundred League, highlighting Pakistan’s long-standing reputation as a strong and talented cricketing nation.

“Pakistani players are recognised worldwide for their skills and performance,” Brook said. “Currently, there are 50 to 60 Pakistani players in the auction who can be a valuable addition to any team due to their exceptional abilities.”

The English captain added that including Pakistani cricketers would not only raise the standard of the tournament but also make the competition tougher and more exciting. He further noted that Pakistani players attract large fan followings, boosting the popularity of the league.

Brook expressed hope that Pakistani players would get more opportunities to showcase world-class cricket in the tournament.

The Pakistan-New Zealand match was abandoned due to rain, with both teams awarded one point each, as there was no reserve day scheduled.

Indian media reports suggest that Pakistan’s path to the semi-finals has become more complicated. If Pakistan wins both of its remaining matches, it will qualify with five points. However, winning one match and losing one could leave Pakistan dependent on other teams’ results.

India is reportedly concerned about semi-final venues. If Pakistan finishes second in its group and India first, India will have to travel to Sri Lanka for the semi-finals instead of playing in Mumbai. Similarly, if Pakistan tops its group and India comes second, India would still face a semi-final in Colombo. Only if both teams finish first or second in their respective groups will India play the semi-finals at home in Mumbai.
