Hasler makes history with European monobob gold on home ice in St Moritz

BERN: Melanie Hasler made history on Saturday by capturing the European Championship title in women’s monobob, becoming the first Swiss athlete to achieve this feat. Competing on her home track at the iconic St. Moritz-Celerina Olympic Bobrun, Hasler delivered a standout performance to claim gold.

The race also counted as a round of the 2025–26 IBSF World Cup, with European Championship medals awarded to the top-finishing European athletes. Austria earned a milestone result as Katrin Beierl secured silver, marking the country’s first European Championship medal in the women’s monobob discipline.

Germany’s Laura Nolte, the reigning European champion, placed sixth overall in St. Moritz but still took bronze as the third-highest European finisher. The World Cup victory, however, went to Australia’s Bree Walker, who stole the show by setting a new track record with a time of 1:11.20.

Women’s monobob is set to appear on the Olympic programme for only the second time at next month’s Milano Cortina Winter Games.

In the 2025–26 IBSF World Cup overall standings, Nolte remains in front with 1,246 points, closely followed by Walker on 1,219, while Germany’s Lisa Buckwitz sits third with 1,128 points.
