Nestlé has confirmed the theft of more than 413,000 chocolate bars, totaling over twelve tonnes, from its new KitKat range. The incident occurred during transit from central Italy to Poland, with both the truck and its cargo still missing, leaving the company and authorities investigating the unusual heist.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Nestlé said it is “working closely with local authorities and supply chain partners to investigate” the theft and recover the missing products. The company emphasised that there are “no concerns for customer safety” and reassured consumers that the incident will not affect the overall availability of KitKat bars in stores.
The stolen shipment represents a significant quantity of Nestlé’s latest KitKat offerings, prompting heightened scrutiny from law enforcement and the chocolate manufacturer. While the full circumstances of the theft are still being determined, officials are examining logistics, transport records, and security footage to identify potential suspects and recover the missing stock.
Nestlé highlighted that its supply chain remains robust, and this isolated incident is unlikely to disrupt broader distribution. The company also urged the public to remain vigilant against any attempts to sell stolen KitKat products, noting that such goods could pose quality and safety risks.
This marks one of the largest reported thefts of confectionery in recent years, reflecting vulnerabilities in transport security for high-value goods. Nestlé’s swift response, coordination with authorities, and transparency aim to reassure consumers and maintain confidence in the brand while the investigation continues.
Authorities and Nestlé officials are expected to provide updates as the probe progresses and efforts to locate the truck and its missing chocolate bars continue.
