WEB DESK: Pakistan is likely to experience a further rise in temperatures over the coming days, with heatwave conditions expected to persist in several parts of the country until June 12, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The PMD said daytime temperatures in the upper parts of the country were likely to remain four to six degrees Celsius above normal, while temperatures in the plains and lower regions could stay five to seven degrees Celsius higher than average.
Heatwave grips major cities
The weather department said intense heat would continue in Islamabad until Tuesday, while northern Punjab and various districts of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were also expected to remain under the influence of hot and dry weather conditions.
Most districts of Sindh, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur and Larkana, are also likely to experience persistent high temperatures. Authorities have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight during peak daytime hours and to remain adequately hydrated.
Rain forecast from June 11
Despite the prevailing heatwave, the PMD has forecast rain in Islamabad on June 11 and 12. Similar weather conditions are expected in parts of northern Punjab, including Rawalpindi and Lahore.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) also predicted rainfall in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and northern Punjab during the same period.
Rain accompanied by thunderstorms is expected in Zhob and Musa Khel, while Peshawar, Swat, Chitral, Mansehra and Abbottabad are also likely to receive showers on June 11 and 12.
Meanwhile, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir are expected to witness a spell of rain from June 12 onwards, offering some relief from the ongoing hot weather conditions.
