The Meteorological Department has forecast rain and hailstorms in various parts of the country over the coming days, while the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued alerts warning of possible flash floods and landslides in northern regions.

According to the Met Office, rain accompanied by thunderstorms is expected in several areas of the country, with isolated incidents of hailstorms also likely. In view of the weather outlook, the NDMA has issued an alert effective from Thursday until June 15, warning of potential flooding in upper parts of the country.

The authority said Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu and Kashmir are expected to receive rainfall accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms, raising the risk of localized flash flooding. Mountain streams and seasonal waterways in these regions could experience a surge in water levels.

The NDMA warned that flash floods may occur in Chitral, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram and Mansehra districts of KP. In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Bagh and Rawalakot have also been identified as vulnerable areas.

In Gilgit-Baltistan, authorities cautioned that streams and nullahs in Gupis-Yasin, Ghizer, Diamer, Tangir, Darel and Gilgit districts could overflow due to heavy rainfall. Residents living in low-lying areas and near waterways have been advised to take precautionary measures and remain alert to weather advisories.

The NDMA has also issued a landslide warning for Gilgit-Baltistan and adjoining mountainous regions from June 12 to 15. Officials said landslides could temporarily disrupt traffic and create travel difficulties at various points along the Karakoram Highway and the Jaglot-Skardu Road.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department said rain is also expected between June 11 and 13 in Islamabad, several districts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and most parts of Balochistan. Hailstorms may occur at isolated locations during the forecast period.
