MUMBAI: Amitabh Bachchan’s famous Juhu residence, Prateeksha, has submerged in floodwater, as shown in several videos that have gone viral on social media.

Reuters reported that incessant heavy rain lashed India’s financial capital of Mumbai, disrupting flights, flooding roads and prompting shutdowns of schools.

Some parts of Mumbai recorded more than 140 mm (5 inches) of rain from Monday morning, the weather department said, causing traffic snarls as cars stalled on inundated roads.

Three people were injured when the staircase of a two-storeyed building collapsed in a southern district of the city late on Sunday night.

‘Mumbai rains spare no one’

The torrential rains have not only paralysed daily life but also inundated the homes of Bollywood’s biggest stars. Among the worst affected is megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s famous Juhu residence, Prateeksha, where floodwater entered the premises.

Videos circulating online show knee-deep water outside and inside the house. In one clip, a voice is heard remarking, “Money or fame, Mumbai rains spare no one – not Ambani, not Amitabh Bachchan.”

A car is also seen stranded in the flooded driveway before security guards swiftly disperse onlookers recording the scene.

Prateeksha’s sentimental value

Prateeksha, gifted to Bachchan and his wife Jaya by filmmaker Ramesh Sippy after the success of Sholay in 1976 and later purchased by the actor, holds deep sentimental value for the family.

Both of Bachchan’s children, Shweta and Abhishek, were born there, and the bungalow was named by his father, renowned poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan.

The property, now valued at over Rs500 million, was recently transferred to Shweta Bachchan.

Train, flights, traffic disrupted

Heavy rains have triggered severe flooding across several districts including Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Palghar, prompting authorities to issue a red alert.
