Heavy rain, thunderstorms expected in multiple Saudi cities

Saudi Arabia is bracing for several days of unsettled weather as a large storm system moves across the country, bringing the risk of heavy rain, thunderstorms and possible flash floods.

The National Centre for Meteorology has issued a widespread alert, warning that the unstable conditions are expected to continue from Sunday through to Tuesday, with intensity likely to shift from region to region.

The forecast shows that much of the Kingdom will be under the influence of this system. Cities across the western belt, including Mecca, Jeddah, Medina, Tabuk, Al Baha, Asir and Jazan, are expected to see bouts of strong rain.

Central and northern parts of the country, such as Riyadh, Hail, Al Qassim, Al Jouf and the Northern Borders region, are also likely to be affected. The Eastern Province, including major urban centres like Dammam and Khobar, has been included in the alert as well.

Authorities have urged residents to stay cautious, particularly in areas where water tends to collect or where flash floods can occur without warning.

People living in coastal and mountainous regions have been advised to follow guidance issued by civil defence officials, who remain on standby throughout the weather event. Drivers have been told to remain alert on the roads, as reduced visibility and slippery surfaces may pose added risks during periods of intense rain.

Meteorologists say the storm may deliver varying levels of rainfall across the Kingdom, although some cities could face severe downpours that may cause temporary disruptions. All relevant departments are reported to be on high alert, with officials calling on the public to keep track of updates from official channels and to prioritise safety until conditions improve.
