WEB DESK: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a spell of heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms across drought-stricken districts of Balochistan next month. According to the PMD, a strong westerly weather system is likely to enter the province between December 6 and 10, with intermittent activity expected to continue throughout the month.
Officials say the rains are expected to significantly ease drought conditions in Zhob, Sherani, Musakhel, Barkhan, Kohlu, Sibi, Lasbela, Awaran, Kech, Gwadar, Panjgur, Khuzdar, Qila Saifullah, Chagai, Noshki, Washuk and Mastung, among other districts. Upper regions may also receive snowfall.
Meteorologists attribute the prolonged wet spell to unusually active northwestern winds and increased moisture from the Arabian Sea moving towards Balochistan.
Meanwhile, the PMD said most parts of the country will remain cold and dry today, with severe cold expected in hilly regions. Light to moderate fog may develop in some plain areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during morning and night hours. Over the past 24 hours, weather remained dry nationwide, with mild fog reported in a few districts of Punjab.
