Hezbollah vows continued action against Israel over “US-Israeli aggression”

Iran-US-Israel war

BEIRUT: Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem addressed the ongoing US-Iran-Israel war on Wednesday evening, saying that the group’s military involvement in the ongoing conflict with Israel is a direct response to “US-Israeli aggression” and would persist “until the objectives are achieved.”

Qassem’s remarks came in a televised address following a recent escalation in which Hezbollah resumed launching rockets and drones toward Israel.

“Over the past year and three months, the Israeli–American enemy has continued its aggression. The ceasefire agreement on November 27, 2024, marked a new phase. We adhered to this agreement together with the Lebanese state, while Israel did not comply with a single clause,” Qassem said.

He said that Israel’s actions constitute a plan of occupation and expansion, adding, “We will confront aggression through legitimate defence of the people, the resistance, and the homeland. For us, this is an existential defence that will continue until the objectives are achieved.”

Addressing questions about the timing of Hezbollah’s renewed engagement, Qassem pointed to ongoing hostilities and casualties, saying: “Are we expected to be patient indefinitely? Is it not enough that around 500 martyrs have fallen over these fifteen months? Among these violations was the targeting of the great religious authority and guardian, Imam Ali Khamenei. Therefore, it was a response to ongoing aggression.”

RECENT ESCALATIONS

The violence intensified after Hezbollah announced on Monday that it had targeted Israel’s Mishmar HaCarmel missile defence site with “a salvo of advanced rockets and a swarm of drones,” citing retaliation for the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader. In response, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) issued evacuation orders for residents in southern Lebanon, instructing them to move north of the Litani River.

Since the attack, Israeli airstrikes have targeted villages and other strategic locations in southern Lebanon. In turn, the Lebanese government has immediately banned all Hezbollah military activities following the group’s rocket launches toward Israel.

The situation underscores growing regional tensions, with both sides blaming each other for violating ceasefire agreements and escalating the conflict.
