WEB DESK: British boxing star Amir Khan has issued a public warning regarding bookings at his wedding venue in Bolton, citing an ongoing dispute with the venue’s operator and announcing legal action over unpaid rent and regulatory violations.

In a statement shared on social media, Khan said the venue, known as The Balmayna, has not received rental payments from its operator, identified as Mohammed from Excellency, for nearly three years following an initial 18-month rent-free period. Khan said the prolonged non-payment has prompted him to pursue legal remedies.

He also raised safety and compliance concerns, revealing that the venue’s main lift has not been installed and has remained out of service for the past year. As a result, access to the second and third floors, as well as the rooftop lounge, is currently restricted. Khan added that the lift is in storage and ready for installation, but work cannot proceed until permission is granted by the operator.

According to Khan, despite the absence of the lift, the upper floors have allegedly been used for events, a practice he said breaches regulations and poses potential risks to guests.

Advising caution, Khan urged people who have booked weddings or other events at the venue to delay their plans until the matter is resolved. He said the warning was issued to prevent customers from risking the loss of deposits or advance payments.

Acknowledging that many people have already made reservations, Khan expressed regret over the situation and confirmed that legal proceedings are under way to address the dispute.

The statement has sparked concern among prospective clients, with Khan emphasising that transparency and public safety remain his priority while the issue is being handled through legal channels.
