Honoring the past, building the future: Pakistan Day celebrated nationwide

Pakistan Day is being celebrated today with profound national pride and renewed unity across Pakistan, as citizens and institutions alike commemorate the historic Lahore Resolution, the defining moment that laid the foundation for an independent homeland.

The day began with solemnity and reverence, marked by a 31-gun salute in the federal capital, Islamabad, and 21-gun salutes in all four provincial capitals. The thunder of artillery was accompanied by resounding chants of “Allahu Akbar” and “Pakistan Zindabad,” echoing the spirit of resilience and patriotism among the nation’s armed forces. Special prayers were offered at dawn in mosques across the country, seeking peace, security, and continued progress for the nation.

In line with austerity measures, the traditional Pakistan Day military parade and several public events were not held this year. Despite this, the spirit of the day remained undiminished, reflected in ceremonies and tributes taking place nationwide.

In Lahore, a dignified change of guard ceremony was held at Mazar-e-Iqbal, the resting place of Allama Iqbal. A smartly turned-out contingent of the Pakistan Air Force assumed ceremonial guard duties, joined by the Sutlej Rangers in a disciplined march past. Air Vice Marshal Muhammad Shahid Afzal attended as the chief guest, laid a floral wreath, offered Fateha, and recorded his reflections in the guest book, paying homage to the visionary poet who inspired the idea of Pakistan.

Extending his message to the nation, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi described Pakistan Day as a powerful symbol of determination, unity, and unwavering faith. He paid tribute to the founders of the nation and the martyrs of the freedom movement, emphasizing that March 23 represents a golden chapter in history when the dream of a separate homeland was formally envisioned. He urged citizens to renew their commitment to unity, self-reliance, and progress, highlighting that the guiding principles of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, faith, unity, and discipline, remain essential for national success.

Law enforcement agencies also reaffirmed their dedication. Inspector General Punjab Abdul Karim paid tribute to the sacrifices of freedom fighters and pledged that the Punjab Police would continue to serve and protect the nation. He stressed that security forces, alongside citizens, remain united in defeating threats to peace and stability, ensuring that Pakistan continues its journey toward a safer and stronger future.

In Peshawar, the day commenced with a 21-gun salute at Karnal Sher Khan Stadium, followed by special prayers. In a forward-looking initiative, the provincial government launched a massive tree plantation drive under the “Green Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Strong Pakistan” campaign. Chief Minister Sohail Afridi inaugurated the effort by planting a sapling, symbolizing growth, sustainability, and hope. With over one million saplings to be planted across 285 locations, and thousands of forestry officials and workers participating, the campaign reflects a commitment to environmental stewardship alongside national development.

As Pakistan marks this historic day, the message resonates clearly: unity, sacrifice, and shared purpose remain the cornerstones of the nation’s strength. From solemn tributes to forward-looking initiatives, Pakistan Day continues to inspire generations to uphold the ideals upon which the country was founded.
