Josh Radnor, best known for playing Ted Mosby on How I Met Your Mother, has revealed that he and his wife Jordana Jacobs quietly welcomed their first child months ago.

The actor shared the news on Instagram on February 4, confirming that the couple are now parents to a baby boy.

“So my wife and I had a baby a few months ago,” Radnor wrote alongside photos of the couple with their newborn. “Here’s what we know so far: His smile lights up the room. He’s super observant and thoughtful. He gets hypnotised when I play him songs on the guitar.”

Radnor added that his son finds the phrase “baba ghanoush” hilarious, calling him “a total delight” and saying he and Jacobs are “thrilled he’s here”.

‘A wild, beautiful, exhausting initiation’

The 51-year-old actor also reflected on early parenthood, describing it as both overwhelming and deeply rewarding.

“Sending love to all my fellow parents of newborns out there,” he wrote. “What a wild, beautiful, exhausting, heart-opening initiation. So grateful.”

A private chapter revealed

Radnor, who has largely kept his personal life off social media, married Jacobs in 2024.

In an interview later that year, he said married life had exceeded his expectations. “It’s fantastic. I love it,” he said. “I know you’re supposed to say that, but I actually love it.”

He added that his favourite moments were the quieter ones. “I like the mornings and I like the nights. We sometimes don’t see each other during the day because of work stuff, so I love waking up together and then reconnecting at the end of the day.”

While Radnor became a household name through How I Met Your Mother, he has since focused on theatre, independent film and podcasting, including his rewatch podcast How We Made Your Mother with series creator Craig Thomas.

Now, he has revealed his most significant role yet, becoming a father, long after the cameras stopped rolling.
