How to apply for Rs100 petrol subsidy in Pakistan: Eligibility, SMS registration and fuel token

With a surge in petrol prices each day, government has launched a new petrol subsidy offering Rs100 per litre relief to eligible motorcycle, rickshaw, three-wheeler and small-car owners.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the scheme was intended to reduce the financial pressure caused by rising fuel prices, particularly for people who rely on motorcycles, rickshaws, three-wheelers and small cars for their daily travel and livelihoods.

Fuel prices have increased amid the ongoing Middle East crisis triggered by the US-Iran war, with disruptions to oil shipments and restricted tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz adding to supply concerns.

Here’s who can apply, how to register by SMS, how to get the fuel token and when the subsidy will become available.

Who can apply for the Rs100 petrol subsidy?

The subsidy is available to owners of motorcycles, rickshaws, Qingqis and other two- and three-wheelers, as well as cars with engine capacities of up to 800cc.

Eligible motorcycle, rickshaw and three-wheeler owners can receive Rs100 per litre in relief on up to 20 litres of petrol per month. Owners of cars with engines of up to 800cc can claim the same Rs100 per litre subsidy on up to 30 litres of petrol per month.

At the current petrol price of Rs375.82 per litre, the maximum monthly relief is Rs2,000 for two- and three-wheelers and Rs3,000 for eligible small cars.

How to apply for the petrol subsidy?

Eligible citizens can register through an SMS-based system developed by the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication in coordination with provincial departments, Nadra and telecom operators.

Applicants must send the required information from a SIM registered in their own name.

The registration SMS must include:

• CNIC number without dashes
• Vehicle registration number without spaces or dashes
• Provincial code
• Vehicle registration date

After the information is submitted, applicants will receive a confirmation message if their registration is successful.

How to get the fuel token?

After completing registration, eligible applicants must obtain a fuel token before visiting a petrol station.

To request the token, send: TOK to 9771

The token should then be presented at the petrol station, where it will be verified before the subsidised petrol is provided.

Do you need a registered SIM to apply?

Yes. The applicant must send the registration SMS using a SIM registered in their own name.

The vehicle and identity information submitted during registration will be checked through the government’s verification system.

How much petrol is covered by the subsidy?

The monthly fuel limit depends on the type of vehicle.

Motorcycles, rickshaws and other two- and three-wheelers: up to 20 litres per month.

Cars up to 800cc: up to 30 litres per month.

The relief is fixed at Rs100 per litre within these monthly limits.

When will the petrol subsidy start?

The scheme will initially be available in Islamabad from the night between Monday and Tuesday. The government plans to extend it across Pakistan, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B), from the night between Wednesday and Thursday.

Why has the government introduced the subsidy?

The relief package comes as petrol prices have surged amid tensions in the Middle East and disruption to major oil supply routes.

As of today petrol currently costs Rs375.82 per litre, while high-speed diesel is priced at Rs403.32 per litre following the latest increase. The initiative follows an earlier government petrol subsidy programme launched in April through a mobile application.
